Jewish Quarterly guest editor named

articlemain

The Jewish Quarterly has named a Southampton University lecturer as guest editor for its 60th anniversary issue in November.

Devorah Baum, who lectures in English and Jewish studies at the university, will take charge of the special edition of the well-respected cultural journal.

The move comes as the journal searches for a new permanent editor, after Rachel Lasserson recently resigned as editor following seven years at the helm.

Dr Baum regularly contributes to the journal and serves on its editorial board.

The Jewish Literary Trust, owners of the Jewish Quarterly, was “delighted” with the appointment of Dr Baum, who professes an interest in “Jewish literature and philosophy” and “the relationship between religion and violence”.

She is also a frequent reviewer for a range of publications, including the Journal of Modern Jewish Studies and the Journal of Holocaust Studies.
