A UK-based Jewish charity has launched an appeal to support civilians affected by the civil war in Syria.

World Jewish Relief (WJR) set up the appeal this week as part of a global effort to provide medical supplies, housing and food to Syrian children who have fled to a refugee camp in Jordan. More than 120,000 Syrian refugees are currently at the Za’atari camp.

WJR chief executive Paul Anticoni said: “In keeping with the Jewish imperative of Tikkun Olam, we are once again calling on our generous community to help us assist people in desperate need.

“Currently Syria is experiencing the largest refugee crisis in the world, and as a community, we must extend our support wherever there is extreme need.”

The WJR emergency appeal, working with Save the Children UK, is currently in talks with Israeli partners to extend support to other refugee camps in Jordan.

More than two million Syrian refugees have fled to neighbouring countries as a result of the war.
