Jason Isaacs film wins festival award

articlemain

A black comedy starring Jewish actor Jason Isaacs has won a top prize at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Skeletons, a film about two exorcists whose work starts to hit a little close to home, received the Michael Powell award for best new British feature film.

The jury said the film, released on July 2, won because of its "original vision and dark humour".

Mr Isaacs, perhaps best known for playing the evil Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, stars with Ed Gaughan and Andrew Buckley in the film.

Actor Sir Patrick Stewart headed the panel to choose the 2010 Michael Powell recipient.

This is not the first time Mr Isaacs has received critical acclaim. In 2009 he was BAFTA nominated for his role in the BBC Four drama The Curse of Steptoe.

The 47-year-old has enjoyed a colourful acting career, playing an Irish-American gangster in the TV series Brotherhood and Captain Hook in Peter Pan.

He told reporters during the film festival that he was taking kickboxing lessons in preparation for a new role where he has a fight scene with Twilight actor Taylor Lautner.

Born in Liverpool, the actor - one of four brothers - moved to north London aged 11 and attended Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School in Elstree. Growing up, he went to Edgware Reform Synagogue.
