An Israeli man living in Golders Green has been charged with death by dangerous driving after being involved in an accident with an off-duty motor-cycle policeman.

Liron Shnaider, 26, of Stanley House, Finchley Road, appeared at Brent Magistrates’ Court at the week-end. He has also been charged with failing to stop at the scene of a personal injury. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Wood Green Crown Court today (Friday May 1).

Police also arrested two men at an address in Golders Green on suspicion of assisting an offender. They were released on police bail to return on a date in May.

Two women passengers in their early 20s were also arrested on suspicion of obstructing police.

They were released on police bail to return on a date in June.

The officer who died was named as Police Constable Chris Dent, 36, who was married with two young children.

PC Dent had been with the Metropolitan Police traffic unit for about five years, having worked previously for Thames Valley Police. He was formerly in the Royal Artillery.

The accident happened at about 9.30pm last Wednesday in Teignmouth Gardens, Perivale, west London. The Met’s collision investigation unit has started an investigation and has appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
