In her message for Holocaust Memorial Day, Theresa May has said that “our commitment to remember the Holocaust is about more than words — it is about action. It is about raising awareness, spreading understanding, ensuring the memory of the Holocaust lives on, and standing up to prejudice and hatred wherever it is found today.”

“That is why, as Prime Minister, I am proud to be continuing the work to create a national memorial to the Holocaust next to the Houses of Parliament, together with an accompanying educational centre, which will include first-hand testimony of Britain’s Holocaust survivors.”

In her message to the Holocaust Memorial Trust’s Book of Commitment, the Prime Minister went on: “Together we will educate every generation to learn from the past and to take responsibility for shaping a better, brighter future in which through our actions, as well as our words, we truly never forget.”

MPs across the political spectrum have signed the Book of Commitment.

In Scotland, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “Learning and reflecting on the horrors of the past will spur us on to create a better future and a society where people respect each other, no matter what their differences.”
