Hague wishes Jews a peaceful New Year

articlemain

The Foreign Secretary has joined leaders of the main parties in wishing the Jewish community "in the UK and around the world" a happy new year.

William Hague said it was his hope that the new year would bring us closer to a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians. "This year has seen historic developments across the Middle East," said Mr Hague. "Those events have created great hope for freedom. They have also brought uncertainty for Israel.

"This is the only way that Israelis and Palestinians can achieve the lasting peace and security they both need and deserve."

He added: "May this be a year of peace for Israel and all its neighbours."
