Glenda Jackson: 'ban Jobbik leader'

articlemain

Labour MP Glenda Jackson has joined calls to ban the leader of the far-right Hungarian party Gabor Vona from entering the UK.

In a letter to Home Secretary Theresa May, jointly signed by Tulip Siddiq, Labour party candidate for Hampstead and Kilburn and chairman of the local Labour party Neil Nerva, she wrote: “This weekend we mark Holocaust Memorial Day, a period of history which to all our shame saw hate destroy hope. We are therefore calling on you to ban Gabor Vona, the leader of the racist and antisemitic extremist party Jobbik, from entering the UK as his politics of hate are simply not welcome here.”

The anti-racist organisation Hope Not Hate, Labour MP Frank Dobson a and London Assembly member Andrew Dismore have already pressed Mrs May to take action against Mr Vona, who is due to address a meeting of Hungarian expatriates in London on Sunday.
