Giles Coren’s Seder with a difference

articlemain

Some might balk at inviting famously vicious food critic Giles Coren to dinner, so it is just as well that in the BBC’s upcoming programme on Passover, he is the one hosting.

The show sees Mr Coren hold a Seder, attended by the JC’s own Rabbi I have a question columnist Rabbi Naftali Brawer, philosopher Alain de Botton and Reform Movement Rabbi Laura Janner Klausner.

For the Jewish audience the programme’s real intrigue comes from the mouthwatering menu of Babylonian Jewish cuisine served by chef Linda Dangoor. Fish cakes with dried lime and beef-stuffed courgettes, not the usual Pesach fare, may make some viewers think being exiled from Iraq might not be so bad.

In a further celebration of our traditions, two episodes of the BBC’s A Very British Wedding show the planning and nuptials of two Jewish couples, one Orthodox, one dealing with the issue of having been married before.

Passover: Why is this Night Different? will show on BBC One on Sunday March 24 and episodes three and four of A Very British Wedding are on March 27 and April 3.
