George Galloway in new row at Oxford Union

articlemain

The tables were turned on George Galloway this week after a student launched a protest and then walked out as the Respect MP gave a lecture at the Oxford Union.

Jonathan Hunter unfurled an Israeli flag and began to speak in Hebrew in front of Mr Galloway before storming out.

The incident on Monday evening came eight months after the MP walked out of a similar event at the university after declaring that he would not debate with a British-Israeli student.

Mr Hunter, a second-year student at Brasenose College, accused Mr Galloway of being racist and attacked him for interviewing former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Press TV.

Mr Galloway said: “Don’t come any closer, I’m feeling threatened by you. What’s that up your jumper?”

“It’s an Israeli flag, I’m an Israeli,” the student replied. “I don’t debate with racists.”

Mr Hunter said he was a friend of Eylon Aslan-Levy, the student Mr Galloway refused to appear alongside in February.

The MP said he had last seen an Israeli flag at an English Defence League protest in his Bradford constituency on Saturday.
