George Galloway accused on Israel-Syria claim

articlemain

Respect MP George Galloway has been accused of misleading the House of Commons over comments in which he appeared to claim Israel had supplied chemical weapons used in Syria.

During last Thursday’s Commons debate on Syria Mr Galloway clashed with Hendon MP Matthew Offord, who asked whether it was true that he had made the claim about Israel while hosting a show on Iranian-backed Press TV.

The Bradford West MP replied: “I said no such thing.”

But footage from the channel reveals Mr Galloway declaring: “If there has been a use of chemical weapons, it was al-Qaeda who used the chemical weapons. Who gave al-Qaeda the chemical weapons? Here’s my theory — Israel gave them the chemical weapons.”

Finchley and Golders Green MP Mike Freer told the Commons on Monday that Mr Galloway had been “recorded accusing Israel” and had “misled the House” — a serious Parliamentary offence.

Speaker of the House John Bercow said he had not heard the interview and would not adjudicate on the matter.
