Fraudsters con elderly Jewish woman out of £2,900

An elderly Jewish woman was left shaken after being conned by three fraudsters posing as property managers.

The 77-year-old victim, who does not want to be identified, was approached by a man wearing a black leather jacket in Golders Green, north-west London.

The man, believed to be in his early 50s and 5ft 6ins tall, told the victim that she owed £2,900 for repairs to a broken boiler in her flat.

She was coaxed into a white vehicle, in which two other men were sitting, and driven to her home in Belsize Park. The three men waited outside her block of flats as she walked to a nearby bank and withdrew the money.

She returned to her home, but as she went to knock on a neighbour’s front door to verify who the men were, the first man grabbed her handbag and an envelope containing the money.

He and the other two suspects, both white and believed to be aged about 25 and 65, then made their getaway in the vehicle.

Detective Constable Steph Barron, of the Camden Major Crime Unit, said: “This is a heinous crime perpetrated by three callous and heartless men on a vulnerable member of our society.

“I suspect that this is not a one-off fraud committed by these men, so I am eager to hear from other victims. This will help me to find them and lock them up.”

Police have so far made no arrests in connection with the incident.
