Former EDL activist given community service over assault on pro-Palestinian

articlemain

The former leader of the UK branch of the Jewish Defence League has been ordered to do community service after assaulting a pro-Palestinian activist.

Roberta Moore had been convicted earlier this month of attacking two men at a literature festival in Tottenham, north London.

During the incident last summer she discharged a dye spray in the face of retired British Library professor and organiser of the festival, Andy Simons before doing the same to festival book-seller Simon Assaf.

Moore, of Cricklewood, north-west London, was given a 12-month community order and told to do 150 hours of unpaid work.

She must also pay £720 compensation and costs.

Her partner, Robert De Jonge was given the same community sentence and told to pay £360 at Highbury Magistrates Court on Monday.

The pair denied the charges, and Moore denied any current connection to the English Defence League or its Jewish division, which she previously led.
