Food, music and fashion in UK Tel Aviv festival

articlemain

The best of Tel Aviv is coming to London next month, with a festival celebrating different aspects of the Israeli city’s vibrant culture.

TLV in LDN will take place at the Roundhouse in Camden, north-west London, from September 8 to 11.

The venue will play host to a free two-day food festival, with street-food stalls offering a wide selection of Israeli cuisine. Four live concerts will also be taking place, with Israeli bands and solo acts including Infected Mushroom, DJ Guy Gerber, and Palestinian-Israeli singer and songwriter Mira Awad.

Other events include an LGBT+ Tel Aviv beach party at the Coronet Nightclub in Elephant and Castle, which will include a performance by Israeli Eurovision winner Dana International, and a classical concert by Israeli musicians at Cadogan Hall.

The festival will also have a digital art exhibition, and a showcase of current and past collections by Maskit, a Tel Aviv based fashion house.

The food festival will be curated by Shaul Ben Aderet, the chef behind some of Tel Aviv’s most celebrated restaurants.

He said: “Israeli cuisine has evolved from so many different cultural influences. The chefs we are working with for TLV in LDN come from all different backgrounds and truly represent the melting pot that is Tel Aviv.”

Speaking to the JC, Marc Worth, the former chair of the British-Israel Chamber of Commerce and the chairman of the festival, said that “although this is the first year the festival is taking place, it has been several years in the making.

“We hope it will showcase and celebrate Tel Aviv’s cultural diversity — offering visitors a sense of the city’s tastes, smells, sounds, sights and cultural scene”.

Mr Worth said he hoped the events would reach “around 10,000 people.

“This festival is completely outside of the political agenda,” he added.

“It is all about celebrating Tel Aviv culture unrestricted by any religious or political boundaries.”
