Labour's Jon Cruddas retained his seat against a BNP threat in a tightly fought contest in Dagenham and Rainham.
Mr Cruddas, who was supported by the Jewish Labour Movement and Hope Not Hate in his campaign beat the BNP by 12,861 votes.
Although they fell short of a win, the BNP’s vote in the East London seat was up by 7 per cent, with 4,952 votes.
