Drugsline charity relaunches

Drugsline, the UK’s only Jewish charity dedicated to helping substance abusers, has reopened thanks to a new partnership with Norwood.

The charity will be working in seven schools — including King Solomon High School in Ilford and Hasmonean High School — to teach pupils about addiction to drugs, alcohol and gambling.

It will also be opening a drop-in centre at Norwood’s Kennedy Leigh Family Centre in Hendon next month, and plans to hold community awareness events.

Rabbi Aryeh Sufrin, who was executive director of the charity for 23 years before it closed last September and went into voluntary liquidation, is acting as chief consultant on the six-month pilot project with Norwood.

He said: “It is a very stripped down service. Norwood were very particular to start it small and grow it. I’m quite excited.”

Elaine Kerr, chief executive of Norwood said: “I am confident that together with Rabbi Sufrin we can deliver an effective, refreshed service which will benefit countless members of the community who need our help.”
