Coroner who ruled on Winehouse death resigns

Amy Winehouse's parents are exploring their next steps after the coroner in charge of the inquest into the singer's death resigned.

Suzanne Greenaway gave a verdict that the Jewish singer had died from "misadventure" and accidental alcohol poisoning last year. But it has now emerged that she left her job a month after the ruling because she did not have the appropriate qualifications.

Ms Greenaway had been appointed to the job of assistant deputy coroner two years earlier by her husband, who said he believed that "her experience as a solicitor and barrister in Australia satisfied the requirements of the post".

But coroners are required to have been registered lawayers in the UK for at least five years, which Ms Greenaway was not.

Ms Winehouse died last July at the age of 27, after years spent battling a much-publicised addiction problem.

Her parents said they were "taking advice on the implications of this and will decide if any further discussion with the authorities is needed".

Yesterday Mitch Winehouse complained after fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier revealed his latest fashion line in Paris. Women sporting Ms Winehouse's trademark beehive hair style and thick eyeliner walked down the catwalk at the show.

Mr Winehouse told the Sun that the images were in "bad taste".
