Church bans extreme speakers after campaign

A Manchester church banned three speakers from an event hosted at its premises by a Palestinian organisation last weekend after complaints from Jewish campaigners.

The Palestinian Forum in Britain hosted its Annual Palestine Day at the conference centre owned by King’s Church in the city centre. The church banned three speakers — Mohammed Al-Shareef, Azzam Tamimi and Abdel Bari Atwan — but would not cancel the event.

The British Israel Coalition’s Sam Westrop said: “How can a Christian institution allow within its walls an organisation that preaches hatred outside, on the condition it does not do so inside?”

Pro-Israel activists demonstrated outside a one-woman show by actress Miriam Margolyes on Saturday, citing her support for the boycott of Israeli theatre company Habima.

This Sunday, the BIC plans a joint demonstration with Kurdish activists at Downing Street about missing Kurdish journalist Mawlud Afand, who has called for Kurdish-Jewish solidarity in resisting the Iranian regime.
