Chinese restaurant attacker's appeal is dismissed

articlemain

A thug who slashed the throat of a man with a Stanley knife in Chinese restaurant in Golders Green, has been told by judges that he deserved his indefinite jail term.

Jacob Charles Butchoff attacked Jonathan Kaae-Mortensen from behind before stabbing him, a court heard.

The pair, who are Jewish, had been involved in a long-running feud, stemming from the fact they had dated each other's ex-girlfriends. Butchoff, 20, of Brent Street, Hendon, north London, was jailed for public protection - which is almost identical to a life sentence - at Wood Green Crown Court in February, after admitting wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

This week he challenged the sentence at London's Criminal Appeal Court, with his lawyers arguing that the Crown Court judge was wrong to conclude he was "dangerous". But despite changing his punishment to indefinite detention in a young offenders' institution because of his youth, senior judges dismissed the appeal, saying the original decision was "correct".
