A conference bringing together nearly 100 internationally renowned academics to discuss antisemitism will be held in the US this month.

Several British speakers, including the CST’s Mike Whine and Trinity College sociologist Barry Kosmin, have been invited to attend.

The three day event, titled "Global Antisemitism: A Crisis of Modernity," has been arranged in association with the Pears Institute for the Study of Antisemitism at Birkbeck College in London.

It will take place at Yale University in the United States from August 23.

The former Canadian Minister of Justice, Irwin Cotler, is to attend along with academics from Harvard, the University of Cape Town and Hebrew University.

In addition to lectures, discussions and a gala dinner, the conference will include the launch of the new International Association for the Study of Antisemitism (IASA).

Charles Small, director of the Yale Initiative for the Interdisciplinary Study of Antisemitism, the institution behind the IASA, said the event had been arranged to look at the global and growing upsurge in antisemitism.

Mr Small said: “This historic conference will be the largest gathering of leading scholars to examine the issue.

“Special attention will be placed on the contemporary context, so that we can begin to grasp what is taking place — and why."
