Board of Deputies 'manifesto' to assist European candidates

articlemain

A draft “manifesto” aimed at informing European Parliament members about key areas of Jewish interest has been published by the Board of Deputies.

Published this week in preparation for May’s European elections, the 20-page document is intended to be a guide for MEPs.

It provides information about Jewish religious practices such as shechita and brit milah, and offers advice on ways to tackle extremism, racism and antisemitism.

It also urges additional work on post-Holocaust issues and Israel’s relations with the European Union.

The Board said it hoped the manifesto would “empower our elected representatives to understand and champion these causes”.

Deputies have until January 22 to provide feedback on the topics covered, and the document will be discussed at Sunday’s Board plenary meeting. The manifesto will then be published and distributed next month.
