Bianca Jagger apologises following antisemitic tweet row

Bianca Jagger, human rights activist and ex-wife of Mick Jagger, has tweeted a link to a neo-Nazi site which includes antisemitic, homophobic and racist remarks about British MPs.

Ms Jagger tweeted the link to her 54,000 followers this morning. It read: “List of UK #MPs who voted for #IraqWar - Please read it carefully, understand why they want @jeremycorbyn out RT http://ow.ly/l3oU3029pf8”

The link leads to a page on the Metapedia website. Founded by a Swedish neo-Nazi in 2006, the site describes itself as an “alternative encyclopaedia”.

The article lists every MP who voted for the Iraq War, along with what it calls “notes” next to their names.

These describe the MP’s religion, ethnicity or sexual orientation, with terms such as “openly homosexual”, “Jew/Jewess” and “Negro/Negress”.

MPs with connections to groups including Labour Friends of Israel and Conservative Friends of Israel are also identified.

Alastair Campbell, the former Downing Street communications director, replied to her tweet asking: “Are we to weigh up 'Jew,' 'married to Jew’, 'negro,' 'openly homosexual,' in this careful reading/understanding?”

Ms Jagger later tweeted: “I'm terribly sorry for posting a despicable tweet by mistake, I posted it at 4.15 in the morning and didn't properly read its content.”

“I'm mortified, I thought it was a list of members of Parliament who voted against the war in Iraq. You all know I am against racism, bigotry”

“I shall learn a lesson not to post a tweet at 4am and I (sic) reschedule it, especially from a website I couldn't read properly. Please forgive me”

"I didn't carefully read the content of the website, I thought it was a straight forward list, not a racist, homophobic and disgusting list."
