Kelmans, the north-london based kosher butcher, confirmed this week that it is taking Blooms kosher restaurant to the London Beth Din to settle a dispute over bills.

Blooms is arguably Britain’s best-known kosher restaurant. The restaurant in Golders Green, North London, underwent a multi-thousand pound modernisation in March last year. The company then went on to open a new restaurant in Edgware, the first since the original restaurant in Whitechapel closed in 1996.

There was also speculation that Blooms was in talks to take over its nearest rival, Reuben’s, in Baker Street in London’s West End, but both parties denied that any talks had taken place.

As well as its long-established butcher’s shop in Wembley, Kelman’s has a manufacturing plant which produces a variety of ready-made meals and other products sold in delicatessens and supermarkets as well as fresh meat and poultry for caterers and restaurants.

A spokesman for Blooms said: “We know absolutely nothing about this and so can make no further comment.”
