Baroness Warsi calls for ‘inventive’ Holocaust remembrance

articlemain

Baroness Warsi revealed this week how a visit to Yad Vashem had sharpened her appreciation of the importance of Holocaust remembrance.

The minister for faith and communities told an audience at the Foreign Office in London on Tuesday: “I was really struck by the image of a young girl. She was the same age and a spitting image of my daughter.

"At that moment, what I learnt in history books and spoke about as a politician about that horrific time became real.”

Baroness Warsi was speaking at the launch of Britain’s chairmanship of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, an organisation promoting Holocaust education.

She said: “I’m not convinced that a plaque or a stone memorial is what really will keep the interest of future generations… we need to be much more inventive about how we keep those stories alive.”
