Antisemitic material taught at Islamic schools

articlemain

A BBC investigation has revealed that Britain’s Islamic schools are teaching pupils antisemitic information from a Saudi Arabian textbook.

According to a Panorama report, 5,000 children as young as age six are being taught from the official Saudi national curriculum, which includes among its lessons a list of the "reprehensible" qualities of the Jews.

Teachers at more than 40 weekend schools across the country are using the textbooks, which contain lessons about punishing homosexuals with death and amputating the limbs of criminals. One textbook warns that non-believers should experience “hellfire.”

Michael Gove, the Education Secretary, said that Ofsted were looking into investigating teaching at weekend schools. He added: “It doesn't seem to me that this is the sort of material that should be used in English schools."

“We cannot have antisemitic material of any kind being used in English schools."

Labour MP John Mann said: "Indoctrinating children with hatred is despicable.

"It is only through children of different faiths, and none, learning together, reaching out to one another and working towards common goals that will we become a more tolerant society."

The Saudi embassy released a statement that said they did not endorse the teaching but that the lessons should be understood in context.
