A post-mortem examination into the death of Amy Winehouse is expected to take place later today.

The Winehouse family is understood to be planning a Jewish burial as soon as they are able for the star, who was 27 when she died.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said there would be a post-mortem today at St Pancras Mortuary. He also said there would be an inquest into the singer's death, which the Metropolitan Police have up until now described as "unexplained".

Since she was found dead at her Camden home on Saturday afternoon, fans have gathered outside Ms Winehouse's house with flowers and messages, as well as beer bottles, wine glasses and cigarettes, in a nod to her reputation for excess.

One note, posted next to a bunch of flowers opposite the house, read: "Shalom Amy. Great singer of our time", and was decorated with two stars of David.

Her musician father Mitch arrived back in London yesterday after cancelling a performance in New York. He said he was "devastated and speechless" about his daughter's death.

Both he and his former wife Janis, Amy's mother, visited their daughter's home to chat to the fans keeping a vigil outside.

Sales of the star's albums "Back to Black" and "Frank" shot up the charts again this weekend.
