Jewish students are celebrating a bumper crop of A-level results, with many achieving the new A* grade.
At JFS Reuven Shirazi gained six A*s and one A grade, with several other pupils receiving three A*s. Overall, 48 per cent of the marks allocated were As or A*s and more than three quarters of the 489 results were B grade or above.
JFS head Jonathan Miller, said the results furthered the school’s record of consistent excellence. “They are founded upon superb, highly-focused teaching, as the high number of A* grades shows, but are also the outcome of hard work and commitment on the part of our students. We are very proud of all of them.”
At Hasmonean High School 22 pupils achieved three A grades and a quarter gained at least one A*. Most students taking vocational courses also received distinctions and merits.
Head girl Yona Schiff, who plans to study medicine after a gap year in Israel, achieved As and A*s in her four subjects.
Headteachers Andrew McClusky and Rachel Fink said: “The results lend weight to Michel Gove’s recent commendation in the JC that ‘Hasmonean is one of the very best comprehensives in the country’.
“We are very proud of all of our students’ achievements, those who have attained the highest grades and, equally, those who have made exceptional progress regardless of their starting points.
In Manchester 76 per cent of King David pupils received grade B or above, including Daniel Barnett, who scored two A*s and three As. Abbie Kramrisch, Jay Stoll, Rosalind Haffner also achieved three A*s.
Four years after opening, Yavneh College in Borehamwood also reported good results with every student passing their exams.
Pupils at King Solomon High School in Essex acheived a 99 per cent pass rate, with nearly three quarters gaining a C grade or above.
Headteacher Spencer Lewis said he was dleighted. "These results are a testament both to the hard work the students have put in and to the dedication of their teachers.
He added: "I am very proud of all the students but in particular of those five students who achieved all A* + A Grades, which is absolutely fantastic."
Among Jewish success stories at mainstream schools, Jonathon Marks, a pupil at Bancroft’s in Woodford Green, Essex, achieved A*s in maths, chemistry and French and an A in further maths.
At Merchant Taylors' School for Boys in Northwood, Middlesex, Paul Erdunast and Ben Levy each achieved four A*s.
At Elizabeth’s School in Barnet Ariel Weiss secured four A*s and the top grade S in both of his STEP papers. He has been accepted to Queen’s College, Cambridge to read mathematics.
At Gateways School in Leeds, Hannah Hurwitz gained the A* and two As necessary to secure her place at Nottingham University.
