An unfortunate misunderstanding came to light at a JW3 event about antisemitism in football last week. Tony Bloom, chairman of second-tier side Brighton & Hove Albion, told 200 guests the closest to antisemitism he had experienced at the ground was, in fact, a red herring.

"We had a report of our fans chanting 'Sieg Heil, Sieg Heil' all game, and we were shocked.

"It turns out they were just chanting 'Seagulls, Seagulls', the club's nickname."
