The third film in the Sex and the City franchise, which followed on from the events of the long-running HBO TV show, will never be made, according to the series star Sarah Jessica Parker.

When asked about production plans by a representative from US showbiz news site Extra yesterday, Ms Parker said: “It's over… we're not doing it”.

The film, which was due to go into production this autumn, has reportedly been held up by demands from co-star Kim Cattrall, who played man-eater Samantha Jones.

“I'm disappointed,” Ms Parker said. “We had this beautiful, funny, heart-breaking, joyful, very relatable script and story.

“It's not just disappointing that we don't get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie.”

The series ran on TV from 1998 until 2004 and the film spin-offs were released in 2008 and 2010.
