Near miss at the marathon

Israeli Hagai Penkar may not have won the London Marathon on Sunday, but he can claim the distinction of being the last of its 39,000 runners to begin it.

When he drove to what he thought was the start line in Greenwich Park, he found he had actually turned up at the finish line, near Green Park. He had entered the wrong details on his online map.

After making his way across the Thames, he finally set off from the correct point, running on behalf of Haifa Police Station.

And by the time he had finished in five hours 12 minutes, he had overtaken thousands of his fellow-runners in 31,140th place.
