MP's personal tour de France

articlemain

Unlike last month, it will probably not have the crowds lining the streets.

But a worthy bike event will be beginning in Leeds today.

Local Labour MP Fabian Hamilton will be setting off on his annual charity ride, raising funds for the city's Jewish home for the elderly, Donisthorpe Hall.

His stops will include the National Holocaust Centre in Newark and the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue at Lauderdale Road in London.

The 10-day
journey will take him across the channel and end at Drancy, site of the notorious round-up of French Jews in 1944 before their deportation to the concentration camps.

It is a place with a deep personal connection; his paternal grandparents were held in Drancy and then sent to their deaths in Auschwitz.
