Coronation Street viewers may have spotted a mezuzah last week on the door of the home of character Pat Phelan, who is trying to avoid paying the builder to whom he owes money by claiming bankruptcy.

ITV assures me the artefact belongs to the house used in filming and there are no plans for Mr Phelan to join the kosher soap fraternity.
