Matisyahu becomes a rabbi

The Lubavitch-inspired reggae star Matisyahu was once held out as an example that rock and strictly Orthodox Judaism could happily mix.

But when the singer shaved off his beard last year, it prompted questions about his religious direction.

Now he can be seen back in a beard — as a character in a new film, released in the USA, The Possession.
He plays a rabbi in a horror story about a dybbuk on the loose.

In an interview with the Algemeiner, he suggested that his one-time Chasidic look might have helped him get the part.
