Jews fill nominations for this year’s Emmy award

Michael Douglas, Patricia Arquette and the writers behind Game of Thrones are all nominated for awards

Jewish actors, writers, producers and directors will make up a large proportion of this year’s nominees at this year’s Emmy awards, set to take place this Sunday.

Writers of Game of Thrones David Benioff and D. B. Weiss – both of whom are Jewish – are nominated for best directors of a drama series.

Michael Douglas and Eugene Levy are both nominated for best lead actor in a comedy series for their appearances in The Kominsky Method and Schitt’s Creek respectively. Alan Arkin is also nominated for best supporting actor for Schitt’s Creek.

Alex Borstein – best known as the voice of Lois in Family Guy – is up for best supporting actress for her role in Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, a TV comedy drama about a Jewish woman. Sarah Silverman's sketch comedy series I Love You, America has also received a nomination.

Sacha Baron Cohen is up for best co-director in a variety series for their satire Who is America? Writer Craig Mazin is nominated for best writer of a miniseries for his HBO drama Chernobyl, which drew attention for becoming the highest ranked TV show on IMDB.

Also up for various awards are Patricia Arquette (Escape at Dannemora), Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Henry Winkler (Barry), Ben Stiller (Escape at Dannemora), Stephen Frears (A Very English Scandal) and many others.
