James Bond's kosher sausage

articlemain

Here’s a story about a Swiss alp, a salami and the world’s most famous secret agent.

A new exhibition on James Bond opened not so long ago at the Schilthorn, which featured in the sixth 007 film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

It records that, while on set, producer Harry Saltzman claimed the world’s best salami hailed from a New York kosher butcher and, to clinch the point, had a sample especially flown in.

Unfortunately, the chauffeur who daily ferried film footage to the airport forgot to return with the prized deli delivery and an angry Saltzman ordered him back. An attempt by one of the production team to spare the hapless man’s blushes by covertly substituting a piece of local charcuterie, according to the exhibition, “fell flat”.
