Former Beastie Boy Mike D’s custom wallpaper is now for sale

Eighties bad-boy rapper now turning his hand to more genteel pursuits – like designing Brooklyn-themed wallpaper

As a young man he fought for his right to party. Now founding member of the Beastie Boys Michael “Mike D” Diamond is fighting for your right to have nice wallpaper.

Diamond wanted to find the ideal wallpaper for his Brooklyn brownstone, and in the absence of any off-the-peg French Country Toile wallcoverings that feature images of legendary rapper Notorious B.I.G. and Chasidim he approached designers Vincent J. Ficarra and Adela Qersaqi to help him create his own.

The vision was "to pay tribute to all things Brooklyn in a way that would appear to be a traditional French Country Toile."

Diamond used the custom-designed wallpaper for his own home Brooklyn’s Cobble Hill district, but he has since sold the house (and presumably the wallpaper with it) and now the wallpaper is on sale through 2Modern.

The former Beastie Boys drummer now lives in Malibu, California, but he hasn’t lost his taste for offbeat décor ideas. The doorframe of his new beachfront home is adorned with a small wooden hand making the Hawaiian “hang loose” sign. “That’s a surf mezuza,” he told Rolling Stone. “A surfzuza…”
