Follow those cab drivers

articlemain

Researchers at University College London are trying to hail taxi drivers. It’s not that they are attempting to beat the rush hour — it’s the drivers they want rather than the cabs.

For several years, UCL has been researching how the brains of cabbies differ from those of us who have never completed the Knowledge. it seems that cabbies develop an enlarged hippocampus — a kind of internal satnav. Now the UCL team wants to know what happens to taxi drivers’ brains when they hang up their meters, and for some reason they thought that the JC might be able to help them find retired cabbies who are Jewish. Not sure where they got that idea. But we’ll forward any volunteers’ details.
