Chief's American prayer

The Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks was honoured in the American Senate when he recited the innovation prayer there on Wednesday, the traditional opening to a session. Invited by Senator Joe Lieberman, he spoke of the "dignity of difference" and prayed that we may "turn enemies into friends".

It is an honour unlikely to be repeated back home in the House of Lords, where the opening prayer remains the preserve of bishops.
