Anthony Horowitz’s Alex Rider books are returning to the screen. The series, popular among young adults, was first published in 2000. The 11 part series is about a fourteen-year-old spy, named Alex, who is forced to work for MI6 after they notice his various talents.

Now, Sony and Eleventh Hour Films have joined forces for an eight-episode adaptation of “Point Blanc” (the second book in Horowitz’s series).

“So many Alex Rider fans have been asking me when he would be returning to the screen – and I couldn’t be more excited that it’s finally happening,” says Horowitz, who was born in Stanmore to a Jewish family.

The new show will see a reluctant spy, Rider, as he infiltrates a correctional academy for rebellious, yet wealthy children. Whilst acting as an unofficial agent for M16, he must find the real reason behind the academy.

According to Variety UK, the series was originally being developed for ITV, but they are no longer commissioning it.

BAFTA award-winning screenwriter Guy Burt has adapted the series, which is based on the novel by Horowitz, first published in 2001. Horowitz will be the executive producer of the TV series. Horowitz says that “Guy Burt has perfectly captured the danger and excitement of the books”, adding that he “sure the series will have universal appeal.”

The Jewish writer’s twelfth novel, “Nightshade,” is set to be published in 2019.
