Richard Baskin kicks out for a good cause and some 'Comic Relief'

Mixed martial-arts expert Richard Baskin is particularly excited about tonight's Red Nose Day Comic Relief show on BBC One. He might be on it.

The 22-year-old is the founder of the Fuzion Mixed Martial Arts Project, set up earlier this year following a £7,500 grant from Sports Relief, part of the famous fundraiser Comic Relief, which supports underprivileged people in the UK and abroad.

Comic and Sports Relief have made a video of Mr Baskin's initiative, which he is hoping will be screened on tonight's programme. Mr Baskin, a former pupil at King Solomon High School in Essex, teaches the extra-curricula mixed martial arts - a combination of kick boxing and thai boxing - in schools and community and leisure centres across London. He has taught more than 1,000 people, aged five upwards.

Mr Baskin, who lives in Clayhall, Essex, tells People: "We want to pass on all the main elements of martial arts to children, such as the discipline and respect. We believe taking part can help put people with behavioural problems back on the straight and narrow.

"We have received a lot of feedback from teachers and parents, who say that the martial arts have really helped to improve children's concentration and ensure they are not just hanging around on the streets after school. I am passionate about getting as many people involved in the project as possible."
