Lucy Roiter and Michelle Cooney eke out music’s future stars

articlemain

Music lovers Lucy Roiter and Michelle Cooney are helping up and coming acts to hit the big time. The pair, who work in the music industry, have launched a monthly night at The Paradise club in Kensal Green, west London.

Called Go West, it aims to feature and promote London’s promising new acts. This month’s gig takes place on Thursday. Headlining is singer-songwriter Julian Peretta, who is signed to Sony BMG’s Columbia label and, having already joined Mark Ronson on a tour, is to support Girls Aloud on their forthcoming tour.

Twenty-three-year-old Ms Roiter who works in music PR and events, tells People: “Michelle and I decided that we wanted to do something for new acts. We felt there was a gap in the market.” Ms Cooney, who works for Sony, says: “We can use out contacts to get first pick of the acts that are coming through. As they are breaking, that’s when we are trying to catch them.”

The ladies, who go to gigs most nights to scout out new talent, are working on Go West in addition to their day jobs but hope it will become a full-time project.

“We are really excited about this,” says Ms Roiter. “It’s a great way to network and everyone seems to be really interested in it.”
