Still confused about the credit crunch? Firm friends Kate Kuper, Kelly Heymans and Cate Bronstein are keen to help. Respectively a former World Bank economist, a teacher and an investment banker, the women have taken on a new project - to teach financial matters to women and schoolchildren.

Their venture, the Cool Head Company, will provide training courses in practical topics and ethical responsibilities that are not usually taught at school.

Ms Kuper, 37, tells People: "We realised that kids are actually interested in money and where they should invest it. I think this has been fuelled by television shows such as The Apprentice, Dragons' Den and The Secret Millionaire."

Their debut course for children - Fun with Finance - uses games, quizzes, role-play, excursions and other techniques to create an awareness of the world of money. It will run during half-term week, from October 20 to 31.

The trio are in the process of developing a course for women who might be embarrassed by their lack of knowledge of things financial.

Ms Heymans, 51, says: "For many women, their lives suddenly change. They have to confront money issues but are too embarrassed to ask questions such as ‘what is equity?'" The course, aimed at women of both professional and non-professional backgrounds, will feature topics including financial terminology, mortgages, pensions, taxes and how to invest.

Ms Bronstein, 40, adds: "We also want to show people that you can leave high-paying jobs and do something completely different, exciting and fun that also helps the community."

All three women live in North London.
