London lawyer Inbali Iserles is making a name for herself — as a children’s author.

Ms Iserles, 33, who works three days a week at international law firm, Ashurst, has written her second book, The Bloodstone Bird. Published by Walker Books and aimed at nine- to 10-year-olds, it is about two children who break into a parallel world in search of a mystical and enchanted bird. She tells People: “I came up with the idea while walking along a London street. Someone pointed out a gutter and I started to ponder a different world that might be down there.”

Miss Iserles admits she found this book harder to write than her first, The Tygrine Cat. Winner of the Calderdale Children’s Book award, it is about a cat who seeks acceptance in a community of street cats. “I was working to a pretty tight timetable. I had to be very disciplined.”

Born in Israel, Miss Iserles moved to the UK aged three. She was educated at Sussex and Cambridge Universities and now lives in Islington, North London.
