Gideon Summerfield makes history with his art work

Talented artist Gideon Summerfield is using his skills to create a social history of 300 15 and 16-year-olds.

Gideon, 15, a student at JFS in north London, has drawn the portraits of his entire year group as part of a unique art assignment called Project 300.

He hopes to re-draw all 300 students in 10 years time, including personal information about what each person is up to.

"It could be a really cool visual social history project," Gideon tells People. "In 2021, many of my year group will be working, married, perhaps with kids of their own. Some may be exceptional achievers, others might find life more challenging.

"So far, it's been an amazing experience as I have communicated with so many more people in my school. I've gradually improved my drawings and I feel a great sense of achievement." Many of the portraits were completed during breaktime and lunch. The rest were done at Gideon's home in Finchley, north London, using photos.

He came up with the idea last December following a conversation with his father. "I think if I repeat the project every 10 years, it will tell the most amazing story of the life - and Jewish - journey of my year group's experiences. And my dad says to have something to focus on in 2021, 2031 and 2041 could be a wonderful roadmap for my future."

A member of the West London Synagogue of British Jews, Gideon adds: "Art gives me enormous pleasure and I am passionate about developing my abilities. I am very proud to be attending the Prince of Wales Drawing School on weekends."

In the autumn, he plans to start studying for his A Levels at Hampstead's Fine Art College in north London.
