David Rosen knows he faces a hard task helping Heather Mills to win public support

Heather Mills has no chance of ever turning the tide of public opinion in her favour, according to her lawyer, David Rosen.

Mr Rosen, who acted as her legal adviser during the divorce hearing against Sir Paul McCartney and has now been appointed her lawyer, tells People: “It’s impossible for her to change the public opinion. She was married to a legend and never had the chance to get good press. I think she is misunderstood.”

But Mr Rosen is doing all he can to help. He confirms reports this week that Ms Mills is considering a return to court to force the publication of secret documents exposing Sir Paul’s behaviour during their marriage. “She wants the public to have the full facts of the case, trying to turn the negative press into something positive to help her charitable causes,” says 35-year-old Mr Rosen, an Orthodox Jew. He acknowledges that now is a time of reflection for Ms Mills. “She needs to consider who she is and what she wants to achieve. There is a lot to think about. Her priority is to make up for lost time with her daughter. People have not seen the charity work she does behind the scenes, helping people who have lost limbs. She should be an inspiration.”

Known as a legal rottweiler, Mr Rosen has also acted for sports stars such as the late George Best and snooker’s Jimmy White, as well as the Beth Din. He was instructed by Ms Mills as an adviser after she parted company with her previous law firm Mishcon de Reya — although he insists he takes no pleasure from the case. “No one should get enjoyment from seeing people split up. I hate it. I would certainly try and save a marriage, but sometimes it’s beyond saving.”

A former City of London pupil, Mr Rosen is a partner at Darlingtons Solicitors in Edgware, Middlesex. Home is in Stanmore, where he lives with his wife Juliette and their three sons. He is a member of Stanmore Synagogue.
