Dan Patterson will have you chuckling after your chicken soup tonight with his new television show

If you fancy a laugh following Shabbas dinner - and are not shomer Shabbat - you might want to tune into comedy producer Dan Patterson's new BBC series. Fast and Loose is an eight-week improvisation show, which Mr Patterson hopes will become a "must-see" for television viewers.

Hosted by Hugh Dennis, star of Mr Patterson's hit satirical panel show Mock The Week, it features a collection of up-and-coming performers including Greg Davies (The Inbetweeners), Marek Larwood, best known for the BBC Three sketch show, Rush Hour, David Armand, Humphrey Ker and Laura Solon, winner of the 2005 Perrier Comedy Award, as they take part in variety of comedy games and sketches.

The brains behind Whose Line Is It Anyway? Mr Patterson, 50, tells People: "There is a game called Sideways Scene where performers lie on the floor and we put a camera on the ceiling so it looks like they are standing up. They can then achieve all sorts of funny things -- defying gravity. There is also a game where one performer mimes a song using interpreted dance and the others have to guess it."

Mr Patterson, who runs Angst Productions, adds: "The show aims to bring improvisation up-to-date. I felt there was a need for a new improv show on TV - Whose Line Is It Anyway? has not been around for ages. There are lots of stand-up shows but there are also lots of comedians who are not necessarily stand-ups. I think it's great to have something that feels a bit different. It is something for every single person to make a date with."

While the series might be "a bit dangerous and a little bit naughty", he says it is suitable for the whole family.

Fast and Loose is on tonight, BBC Two at 10pm. And if you do keep Shabbat, it will be repeated Saturday, BBC Two at 11.15pm.
