You may have seen this face somewhere lately. That's because Angela Cox is the face of Cancer Research UK's national breast-cancer awareness campaign.

Mrs Cox, 60, who has beaten breast cancer twice, was selected for the campaign along with two other women who have been affected by the disease. Her photo, taken at a professional shoot by model Penny Lancaster-Stewart, has appeared on the fascia of nearly 600 shop windows across the UK this month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

"I have seen myself, and it's very weird," Mrs Cox, a grandmother-of-two from Hertfordshire, tells People. "It's very unusual to be thrust into the public eye like this, but it's nice. I am extremely honoured, to say the least." She adds: "When we did the photo-shoot with Penny Lancaster-Stewart, Rod [Stewart] and his daughter Kimberly came in. We were in our dressing-gowns having our make-up done and they were so sweet and interested in what we were doing, and happy to hang around. They were gorgeous."

A former fitness instructor, Ms Cox was diagnosed with cancer in her left breast in 1996, and her right breast in 2001. She has had both removed. Her daughter Sarah, 33, had a preventative double mastectomy two years ago.

Since being diagnosed, Mrs Cox has worked voluntarily to help sufferers. She is a member of Sparkle, a local group of women who raise money for Cancer Research UK, and she has spent the past 12 years volunteering at Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood, Middlesex.

"My main message about breast cancer is that unfortunately it is not just an older woman's disease, and the quicker a younger woman gets diagnosed, the better. If you go the GP and are told you are fine but still have a lump, then go and see a specialist."

Mrs Cox lives in Oxhey with her husband Anthony.
