Demonstrators in Israel set their Russian passports on fire in a protest against the invasion of Ukraine.

Crowds gathered outside Russia’s embassy in Tel Aviv yesterday to voice their fury and horror over the war.

Chanting: “Putin is a murderer”, they held up banners proclaiming: “No to Russian fascism.” “Putin = Hitler,” a sign said, while another proclaimed “Shame Russia”.

One placard warned: “Putin will not stop on Ukraine and will move further! We have to protect the world from the aggressor.”

Many of the protestors were born in Ukraine or have family there. Among the crowd were Russian citizens who are appalled at the actions of Putin’s regime.

Some set their passports on fire, apparently disowning their citizenship of Russia.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has urged volunteers in Israel to join a newly formed foreign legion in the fight against Putin’s armies.

The Embassy of Ukraine posted a message saying: “Urgent! To the attention of persons who wish to participate in the protection of Ukraine from the Russian military aggression!

“Dear compatriots, brothers and all caring citizens of Israel and other countries who are currently in Israel. The Embassy has begun the formulation of lists of volunteers who wish to participate in combat actions against the Russian aggressor.”

Those who are ready to “defend the sovereignty of Ukraine” were invited to provide their “military speciality” and other personal details in an email. The post has since been removed.
