The Charity Commission is to investigate the group running a Birmingham mosque whose manager was exposed by the JC for sharing videos that appeared to indicate support for the Taliban and compared Israel to Nazi Germany.

Saddique Hussein, the manager at Central Jamia Mosque Ghamkol Sharif, shared a video from the far-right American media outlet ‘TruNews’ in which pastor Rick Wiles - who has previously claimed that Jews are “decievers” who “plot” and “lie” - explicitly compared the actions of Israel to the Nazis.

Mr Hussein also uploaded a video that said: “I am Israel – I have the power to control American policy. My American Israel Public Affairs committee can make or break any politician of its choosing.”

He also posted a clip on Facebook that appeared to indicate support for the Taliban. 

The video showed fighters from the militant Islamist group brandishing assault rifles and reciting the Quran. 

Mr Hussein wrote above it: “How beautiful and civilised and no ‘I’. May Allah SWT guide us on to His beautiful religion.”

After a police warning, Mr Hussain insisted he “does not and never has supported the Taliban”.

Charity regulators have now said a full investigation will take place into Dar ul Uloom Islamia Rizwia (Bralawai), the group that runs Central Jamia Mosque Ghamkol Sharif, over the conduct of trustees and staff members on social media.

The Commission carried out a compliance visit to the charity in November last year following regulatory concerns over social media activity.

In a press release they said: “These posts resulted in the charity receiving negative media attention and complaints being raised directly with the Commission.”

Among other issues, the inquiry will examine the conduct of trustees and senior management on social media and look at whether they acted in accordance with the charity’s social media policy.

After the JC exposed the posts by Mr Hussein, campaign group Muslims Against Antisemitism attacked “the frothing and foaming nature of the antipathy that some hold”.

They said: “Promoting views and associations between ‘media control’ and depicting ‘Zionists’ as having ‘control’ shows the conspiratorial mindset of the person in question.”

Trustees of the charity have also shared provocative anti-Israel views on social media. 

Mosque trustee Asif Quayum shared a cartoon previously condemned by Scottish politicians for antisemitism that depicts Israel as a dog. 

Zahir Abbas, another trustee, declared that Israel was committing “genocide” as he attacked the United Arab Emirates for normalising relations with the country. 

“Think twice before you book Dubai as your next holiday,” he said on Facebook, as, “you will be supporting the genocide in Palestine!”
