Israeli nuclear whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu is back in prison after violating parole conditions.

Mr Vanunu, 55, was jailed in 1986 for disclosing confidential information about Israel's nuclear operation to the British media.

The former technician at the Negev Nuclear Research Centre served 18 years of his sentence and was released in 2004 on condition he did not travel abroad, speak to the media or have contact with foreign nationals.

He was arrested in December in Jerusalem on suspicion of meeting foreigners, including a Norwegian woman with whom he claimed to be in a relationship.

He was sent back to prison for three months this week after refusing to do six months community service because he was afraid he would be harassed.

As he was led away, Mr Vanunu shouted: "You didn't get anything from me in 18 years; you won't get anything in three months. Shame on you, Israel."

In 2007 Mr Vanunu was sentenced to six months for breaking his parole conditions.
