Al Qaeda is responsible for 95 per cent of the world’s suicide bombings, and poses an ongoing threat to the Israel, according to a new study.

Researchers at Tel Aviv's Institute for National Security Studies found that the jihadist terrorist network, which has promised to wipe Israel of the map, was responsible for the vast majority of suicide attacks last year.

Experts said the number of such attacks had increased, with bombers targeting places where there is a foreign army.

An INSS spokesperson said: “For Israel, this escalation, and especially the increase in suicide bombings, is a warning of sorts to increase security vigilance lest some involved in the conflicts along its borders attempt to export suicide terror to Israel."
